NZ Music Month: Last Week Project

After watching and being inspired by the Seven Worlds Collide doco on TV last night, I had a crazy idea.
It might crash and burn, but it might be really cool and with Gearfest-AK winding up the week and the month on Sunday it might be super cool...

So... how 'bout we collectively write and record a cool little song over the week and at Gearfest on Sunday, maybe jam it a bit, shoot some video and slap the sucker on Youtube.

Can we do it? I say YES!

Can we be bothered? Well? Can you?

I propose someone (me for example or anyone else who wants it) takes a "producer" role and guides proceedings, makes executive decisions and tries to get shit going.

Other talented Jim-Bobs will be required to come up with:
~Song Structure
~Lyrics
~Chords/Melody etc
~Drums or a drum loop or something hitty and bangy
~Various guitar parts
~Bass parts
~Vocal parts
~Any other noises and instrumentation

Anyone want to join the team and have a crack at some of this?

It doesn't matter where you're from or which Gearfest you go to, if you want to contribute to the writing/recording of this project, SPEAK UP before we end up with a collection of random synth squeaks.

Its not going to be recorded at Gearfest, it will hopefully be recorded before then just like any other tone-clip contribution on NZG.

at least they'll be recorded via guitar :P

we should get a move on too, I can make us up a drum track if we decide what we're playing, what style and how long its going to be

OK, since a drum track makes a good base to work from, lets indeed get on with it.

Executive decision number one:

4/4 time
Upbeat rock feel.

Verse
Verse
Bridge
Chorus
Solo (over a verse)
Verse
Bridge (with lead guitar building into the chorus)
Chorus
Outro Solo

If you have any backing tracks similar to that, ace... otherwise get programming ;)
We don't need a polished drum track just yet, just something to establish the structure, tempo, timing etc.

Want lyrics? I jotted this down in a frustrated moment while doing my accounts over the weekend. It's about my imaginary accountant Brian (who popped into existence the day I spelt brain wrong on a facebook status update but that's another story again). No obligation to use, they're quite silly, but they're here if you want. I wish I had more time to make a contribution to this project but I'm pretty damn flat out this week dammit.

Oh Brian Brian what have you done?
You've ruined my life and spoilt my fun
You've made a mess of my accounts
W recklessly lost track of large amounts

Even though you're imaginary
You've gone and created a tragedy
But I have learned from my mistakes
I'll hire an accountant in your wake

Brian Brian Brian, your so incompetent it makes me cry
Brian Brian Brian you're useless and you'll have to die

Brian Brian what misery
You have invented just for me
I swear you'll soon be history
None shall tell your sad story

I won't be coming to your funeral
I don't expect that anyone will
Except perhaps the aliens
And the government spies that you call friends

Brian Brian Brian, your so incompetent it makes me cry
Brian Brian Brian you're useless so you had to die

Brian I am missing you
There's no one to attach blame too
I'll resurrect you from the dead
So you can take the fall instead.

SOLD!!

We might not have room for the whole novel, but if you don't might it getting chopped up a bit and the eventual singer can make it work, that's it.
