building or buying a computer for recording.

Post by nztim »

As the title says I am looking at building or buying a computer to be used for recording, mainly podcasts, but there will be multitrack editing and the occasional video edit and render. Im am just throwing my toes in the water currently so I know how big I need to be saving. I am currently just using my laptop which isnt really cutting it, partly spec and partly because its our sole computer and sometime the wife wants to use it too..

So seeking opinions on what essential specs you think id require? PC or Mac? Any computers for sale at main outlets at the moment that would be perfect? (or maybe one sitting in your corner, haha)

I just want something that I can use for atleast a few years before having to worry about doing a serious upgrade...

Cheers

I think portability rocks so iPad or another laptop. I own a x220 Lenovo and has the power to do everything I want. About $1600 worth. iPad / mini iPad $400-800. iPad won't be able to process like the Lenovo but price relative. Simple video editing etc.

If you were to go desktop pc $1000 buys you a nice package. You could prob spend half that. Depends on exact computing requirements.

Good stuff.

I'm gonna be clearing out a bunch of mics and bits and pieces soon. Hopefully starting from this weekend. Keep your eyes out for some bargains.
