I don't know about ply - but it is certainly laminated - I counted 14 layers. What that does to sustain I have no idea. Of course the bodies of most guitars are made from at least 3 pieces of wood.

That's the one. I didn't expect the bidding to go that high - I just wanted to paint it for fun and get my money back. Still, I guess I have to take it if its offered...

At some point in time it was wired in a very weird manner still worked - sort of, but they had the tone cap in series with the signal line!

I rewired it correctly and it actually sounds not too bad.

Hey Doc. I recently set up a jap SG copy for school. the brand was "Diplomat". that could be a possibility for the one you painted. It would have been around the same era.

Thanks, Stevo - I thought of that too - I actually have an old Diplomat badge off one I had in '69 and thought about putting it on the headstock, but since I don't know it for sure, I figured that was a misrepresentation? In the end I decided to go for 'name unknown' so I was truthful to the buyer.

I do hope you're going to supply 'vintage' no-name strap and strings with this instrument for the authentic 70's sound plus supply a manual with the usual OSH safety instructions e.g 'It is dangerous to play this instrument in the shower while connected to a mains-powered amplifier' or 'Playing this instrument stark-naked on the beach for more than 8 hours at a time on summer days will result in incresed risk of skin cancer!'

After all we want you to be a responsible dealer right ??? LOL

Riding an elephant backwards through Otara, while soloing with your tung. Controlling the wah by sitting on it, all upside down.
