One guitar to rule them all....
Now this is where it gets tricky...
I'm not going to list what I've got and had, partly as my memory seems to be going
So is there one ultimate versatile guitar? I'm open to teles even, I have a new found love for there tone, or at least their modeled tone on the gr-55....
I have my own ideas just wondered what you guys are going to push at me

Re: One guitar to rule them all....
I don't reckon there is, although my experience is pretty limited. I thought a superstrat was where it's at, but since playing a few, I don't think I could replace my Les Paul. The super strats just don't sustain the same way. But then, the LP doesn't lend itself to shreddy wang bar madness.
I would, however, like to see you playing a Razorback...

Re: One guitar to rule them all....
Trick question! The answer is a Steinberger or Parker Fly.
Seriously though, I reckon a 335y thing with P-90s and a bass roll-off covers a helluva lot of ground. Shame you don't have anything like that really...
Oh wait!

Re: One guitar to rule them all....
Of all the guitars I own my Tele is the most versatile and has the widest range of usable tones. Back in yesteryear many top session guys had an ES-335 and a Telecaster and personally I think that is the ultimate combination for covering a wide range of styles and having a wide range of usable tones. Some may disagree but try it before you knock it
if it has to be ONE guitar... hmmmmmmm tough. Superstrat maybe (H-S-S) or a PRS Custom 24 (excellent variety of tones but I sold my Custom 22 because I felt it was a jack of all tones and master of none. my 2c) Parker Fly will obviously float your boat or a Steinberger..

Re: One guitar to rule them all....
I agree that one guitar to do it all is silly talk, although I have tried to create 'the one' several times.
It's clear that some guitars do things better than others, and depending on how picky you are and how much you feel you need it to sound in the direction you want will mean more or less guitars. Sometimes having the guitar that fits the bands image is important too. Not many shredders play Les Pauls and not many songwriters use superstrats, sometimes it is good to look the part.
The closest I can come up with for the one for me is a superstrat. My Ash custom will be the closest I can get to a 'do it all' guitar but at the same time it wont restrict itself from having It's own voice. Sometimes turning a gat into a monster means that it can do a bunch of half assed tones but not one good one.
Anywho, 'my' Ultimate guitar is a mahogany superstrat (Suhr styled) guitar with two humbuckers, a volume and tone knob and a five way switch. I can get a good neck and bridge humbucker sound, a stratty neck-split sound, and tele-ish bridge split sound and both combined for something funky. A 2 point trem with a tremolno installed means I can get some warbly goodness when I want it, or turn it off completely for good stability. The strat shape means that it is comfortable to practise with, lots of access to the higher frets, and of course I can change the neck later on if I needed to make a drastic change.
