Have you played one with a neck humbucker tho'??

In all seriousness how about a PRS McCartny or a Custom 22? If you can get over the whole Santana/Nu Metal/Nickelback stigma, they are quality instruments. I recommend changing the puckups from the stock dragon 2's, and youll pretty much have the 1gtrta.

Yeah the tele love has confused me too..you mean they do something other than twang? The only players I can think of who make a tele sound cool are Roy Buchanan, Albert Collins, and Jeff Beck (people get ready) and they all had the treble twang going on. If its so versatile how come you don't see more metal/rock/jazz dudes using them? Any suggestions for tele enabled recordings to check out in genres other than country & blues and featuring tones other than the treb on 11?...and before I get a whole heap of John 5 links my opinion is that if you chuck humbuckers in it ceases to be a telecaster.
I guess that rules Slipknot out as well then.

I think it is pretty hard to beat a Carvin DC400 they have switchable Humbuckers / single coils , a acoustic pickup in the bridge and it is mixable plus a Phase switch
There is a separate out on the guitar that you can use to run the acoustic to the PA or an acoustic amp

Guitar amp is active also
neck through body construction and you can order it in your choice of wood, colour, hardware plus a load of other options etc I have sold quite a few in NZ and you never see one second hand because people keep them

there is even a purple option with one pictured in the link

Still love my Levinson though

The versatility of a guitar is only limited by one's imagination.

I agree with those who say that a Tele is a versatlie guitar. Certainly not a one trick pony. A Tele is pretty far removed from a Les Paul, and yet can approximate the thick sound of a Les Paul. No humbuckers required either. A '50s style Tele bridge pickup and the right amp will get you there. Listen to this and tell me it's not thick. Definitely still has a Tele quality to it, of course, because it is a Tele so you'll never get rid of that DNA entirely.

And of course, as we know, the Tele can do bright, clear, twangy. It's all in the way you play it and how you have it set up.

You forgot Jimmy Page...got some pretty huge sounds with a tele...

And Jim Root uses one...but like matman says, it's hardly a tele in the traditional sense anymore

I've always heard that the tele is the working musicians go-to guitar. I wonder where this statement came from?
