Basically a faded satin cherry - more info in the 'guitar midset's' thread.

The Phat Cats I had in my 335 were awesome
Much as I like P90's, it's not quite the sound I'm going for on this one, more after thick humbucker type jazz tones.

Still Sootying over this a bit (what do you expect?). I don't quite have the GAS for the AS53 I have for the AS103, but I'm trying to imagine how good it could be with some tweaking. I like the finish and I'm pretty sure it'd sound great with the right pickups. It actually sounds very good stock, but not as good as the AS103.

I've heard good things about them but not tried them. Worth a shot for the price I reckon.

I remembered when i played the John Scofield model 335 at Musicworks last year. I instantly fell in love with it.

The AS103 was still a pretty classy guitar, but the JSM....

The Ibanez Scofield is out of this world.

Get the AS103. Save up for longer and get it, it will be better wood, finish and quality than the 53 model which can be upgraded in some ways but I'd just get the 103 and be done with it as they are killer guitars.

On a (semi) budget: Dimarzio 36th anniv PAF in the bridge and Duncan Jazz in the neck.

Gibson's own '57 Classics are killer 335 pickups, but I dunno if you'd save anything getting those. Don't love 'em in an SG, love 'em in a 335.

Yeah, I would love to get the Schofield, but way too many dollars for me right now. I'd also love the JS200 that's been on Trade Me recently, but also way too much.

I've got a Gibson 57 Classic plus and 57 Classic lying around at home. (Came out of my LP cos despite their warm and classic sound they weren't bitey enough in the LP for what I wanted). They've had little use. Be happy to trade or sell them. Heck, you can even try them before you buy them if you want.
