Great thread. I've always struggled with the LP ergonomics but a nice one is something to behold.

2020 LP Standard 60’s, Iced Tea with AAA top. Got it from Mattress last year, I’ve very slowly learnt to hold onto the good ones

Nice pair of amps!Reg18 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 17, 2024 9:00 pm 2005 Classic, came with a headstock repair then required a full fretboard off and trussrod replacement, owes me way more than it’s worth so likely to stay for a long time. It’s not in the league of any of the CS stuff being posted but it’s everything I wanted in a Les Paul and I’m very pleased with it.
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Re: The Gibson Les Paul Model thread
What’s the neck size on the 68 like? Mine is probably the largest Les Paul neck I’ve ever played. I’ll get some dimensions

Strung with 46 in every position, tuned to drop A
When faced with quality, I recognise it every time.

Re: The Gibson Les Paul Model thread
It's surprisingly slim. I remember saying that in the NGD thread for it. Definitely slimmer than the R4 and R8. I would say it's more of an R9 feel, or thinner.
The Gibson CS page has the profile as "Authentic '68 Medium C". I'll measure it tonight - it'll be interesting to compare the dimensions to yours. I played another '68 RI in a shop in California, with reflector knobs (unsure of era), and the neck was R7/8 territory.

I miss my R8, thanks for reminding me about it Joe! Ours could have been brothers, love the top on them
Still the only one I regret letting go of was my ‘93 LP Premium Plus, ended up selling it to Danny and he’s never expressed any interest of relinquishing it

Re: The Gibson Les Paul Model thread
I've got nothing that would be considered especially exotic as far as LPs go but the ones I have are keepers.
It's very light and sounds great. Pretty much all original. 2010 LP Traditional Darkburst. I bought this secondhand and it had awful sounding pickups. I swapped them out for some SD Seth Lovers, installed a new harness, put on some Grovers and installed a Bigsby. Now it sounds really good! 1974 LP Deluxe Goldtop. When I got this the previous owner had replaced lots of parts for more modern, high gain style stuff. Luckily he'd kept most of the original bits so it came back together pretty easily. The mini humbuckers aren't to everyones taste but I love them. Great sounding jangle is easily accessible!
In a rather odd twist, I paid the exact same amount for each guitar even though the purchase dates were 1996, 2015 and 2016.
1996 Les Paul Standard. I bought this new when I was 21 from Atwaters in Auckland. It was on special I guess because it's black and not sunburst. Around the same time Dave Dobbyn and Jeremy Eade started playing black Les Pauls so I figure that's pretty good company to keep. Maybe there was a batch of black ones brought into NZ?!It's very light and sounds great. Pretty much all original. 2010 LP Traditional Darkburst. 1958 Fender twin, 1965 Vox AC30, 1966 Marshall JTM 45, 1977 Dumble OD Special.
Big black garbage bag full of original Klon Centaurs and TS808s.

Re: The Gibson Les Paul Model thread
There must been a run of black LPs for a few years into NZ. I got one brand new from Wellington in 98.
