Your favourite Strat colour combination...

Post by Zaulkin »

Hey guys,

I'm going to be working on a project guitar soon - It's going to be a strat style guitar, and it's likely to be a fat strat/super strat. I've got a rough idea of what I want it to look like, but I want some inspiration for colour! What's your favourite strat colour combination? I.E. Body colour, pickguard, hardware, neck, knobs etc...

Go!

Black bodypaint, with NO Pick guard (P ups mounted LP fashion), and silver metalwork, with silver covers over the pickups. The black and silver look neat, contrasting.

But then again, given my Satin Fat Trans strat, I'd be biased :)

Take a wander round town and look at cars for colour ideas. I've got a theory that most car paint colours look good on a shreddy strat. Whereas the same colours would look ridiculous on a Les Paul.

I've always liked the idea of a white strat with a big blue line like below.

Mine is vintage white, but I much prefer classic 3t sunburst.
I do not like the Fender logo on mine and much prefer the big '70s bold logo.
My sctratchplate is moto purple, but I much prefer classic tortshell.
Maple neck/fingerboard always for a classic strat imo.

There's lots of colours which you don't see very often. Samick as it may sound, I've always thought shell pink with the rosewood fretboard looks kinda cool. I've never seen the colour in real life though.

Here's the link to the Fender colour chart.

"And isn't that the finest acoustic bass guitar feedback solo you've ever heard?" - Billy Moose.

+1 if it's a rosewood fretboard.
if it's maple, then natural body with black pickguard

Daphne Blue found its way into the Fender color scheme in 1960 and stayed until 1965. Originally an automotive color, it was offered only on the 1958 Cadillac. Like many of the colors from the Custom Color era it is again offered by Fender. Slightly darker than Sonic Blue, Daphne Blue can be warmed and aged with a clear coating of nitrocellulose lacquer. A white primer is recommended for more efficient covering.
