Just looking at Epiphone's Ultra III, has a USB port to go directly to your laptop. Pretty interesting development, I can kind of see why they've gone with Epi for this rather than Gibson.

Re: Guitar->laptop
See, I think all this electronic random shite they keep trying to stuff into Gibsons would do really well if they shoved it into Epiphones.
Quite a good idea there.

I actually laughed out loud at that.mr_sooty wrote:But how will it sound through headphones?
(little dig at myself there )
I think, as a massive generalisation, that it aims more at the bedroom guitarist market than it would in a Gibson, if that makes sense.

Just to burst the innovation bubble like a pedantic prick with a new needle...
Some of those nasty $99 strats that went through supermarkets and The Warehouse a few years ago had USB outputs.

Oh yeah, I did realise that, I thought this was notable for coming from a recognised manufacturer.ash wrote:Just to burst the innovation bubble like a pedantic prick with a new needle...

Re: Guitar->laptop
I agree. Younger people, who supposedly are more into technology, usually can't afford a proper Gibson. It'd make sense to aim the electronic random shite at them and the guitars they CAN afford and then, when they're older and better off, they'll be willing to buy all sorts of roboto-computerised-fandaglered Gibsons because they've been using the tech for decades. It's a long term strategy but it would be a good one.TmcB wrote:See, I think all this electronic random shite they keep trying to stuff into Gibsons would do really well if they shoved it into Epiphones.

I'd just be concerned about what AD converters are being used in it... Surely it would bump the price up a fair way if they were decent, so can't imagine it would be too useful apart from laying down some basic DI guides.
