Is the way the serial is stamped normal?....looks rough as shitGrantB wrote:Not a fake and not 6 months old. That serial suggests either a 2004 or a 2014, most likely the latter. I've seen a few with this horizontal checking from the custom shop.

Doesn't nitro crack like that if it goes from hot to cold like warm house to freezing car boot. Fender in this pic apparently cracked the finish just from being shipping in very cold weather. Looks similar to the LP Custom

It looks like the finish has cracked from over tightening of nuts and screws though!Polar Bear wrote:Is be unhappy if it hadn't started checking before 6 months. Re: Return of the Gibson shocker thread!
If it's been sitting in the shop for a few years, the screws would have been tight there too. This particular finish might have been more sensitive to the change of weather than is normal?
Loving it so far

Looks like it's gone through a harsh temperature change, to me.jeremyb wrote:It looks like the finish has cracked from over tightening of nuts and screws though!Polar Bear wrote:Is be unhappy if it hadn't started checking before 6 months. Quite possibly, and to be fair a 17 year old kid won't have a clue about nitro being affected by temperature etc...Polar Bear wrote:Looks like it's gone through a harsh temperature change, to me.jeremyb wrote:It looks like the finish has cracked from over tightening of nuts and screws though!Polar Bear wrote: Is be unhappy if it hadn't started checking before 6 months. Well, no, they don't know much about anything.jeremyb wrote: Quite possibly, and to be fair a 17 year old kid won't have a clue about nitro being affected by temperature etc...
I haven't posted on his thread, but I think it makes it look better, and it was going to happen at some point anyway. I'm pleased it's not me dealing with the warranty on that one.

Re: Return of the Gibson shocker thread!
I've suggested he take it back because I'm interested in what they say. My LP has a fair bit of cracking but it's twenty years old. Wondering if RS will tell the guy its just natural aging for nitro so suck it up.Polar Bear wrote:Well, no, they don't know much about anything.jeremyb wrote: Quite possibly, and to be fair a 17 year old kid won't have a clue about nitro being affected by temperature etc...

Re: Return of the Gibson shocker thread!
They should just show the kid a $15k aged one and tell him the more he pays, the more nitro cracks he gets. Sell 'em like they are worth something.

I'm sorry; tedious repetition and all, but if it's newish and the finish isn't falling off, it's a Chinese fake.Molly wrote:I've suggested he take it back because I'm interested in what they say. Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.
