NGD

Post by Glacial Pace »

A new ESP eclipse was waiting for me when I got home from work yesterday, and now I have sore fingers  .

I've wanted one of these since long before I started playing and one came up at a really nice price. It's been played a lot but not abused and feels lovely. Pickups would have been EMG 81 60's stock but they have been changed out for I think a SD Phat Cat and JB. There really is a massive difference in tone between the two (as you would expect) the Phat Cat is a very full warm sound, great for chords and creamy rhythm sounds. The JB is sharp, individual notes sound great clean or distorted but chords do get a bit muddy with distortion. They sound great, but I do have a set of EMG's coming to try out in there as well, I've never had active pickups before so it'll be good to compare them. Right now I am happy though.

Yeah, I can't believe they don't make esp standard series anymore! Got to spend a lot of money to get a new guitar with esp on the headstock now!

That is lovely, like the headstock... but man you are in desperate need of a new BBQ table. ANy self respecting amp builder would love that sag
When faced with quality, I recognise it every time.

I'm not sold on the EMG's by any means, but this seems like the guitar to try them out in since it was supposed to come with them. I can always go back to these pickups if I like them better, and I do like them. The Phat Cat is lovely and I like that the JB is so different, it give two very different but usable tones.
The BBQ table is fucked haha, I rent and it came with the house. We do still use it though, and the season for eating outside is almost upon us down here. Looking forward to it!
