Na, it's scratches, I scrubbed it with a green scouring cloth, you can see near the fret where it isn't scratched as the cloth didn't contact the wood there.
Scratches are running left to right, grain is top to bottom in that photo.
I'm an idiot, how do I fix this? *All fixed now!*

I had heaps to do today so naturally I played guitar went and rode dirt bikes and then spent a few hours trying to clean this up. I think it has come up well.
Steel wool, then naptha, then some oil and the fret board looks good
Gave the pickup covers a bit of a polish too
Tried to get this staining out but car swirl remover didn't shift it, I'm not too fussed
Back of the head stock just because

That ebony looks amazing being so black. Do all ebony boards look the same? Do they dye or stain it in manufacturing?
Oh and the colour stain in the back you could just twink over. You'd need one of the old bottles with the brush; that new "correction tape" stuff isn't as versatile.
