NGD

Post by codedog »

Eeeeeek! I've gone and bought an 2012 American Standard Tele, it should be here tomorrow! Can't wait to pop my Tele cherry! Unfortunately upgrades to noiseless pups will have to wait for my wallet to recover. I'm also waiting to hand some money over to Danny... I may as well learn to enjoy single coils.

EDIT: Finally got it home. Photos in this post: http://nzguitars.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... 30#p718317

Cool. Congrats. Don't rush to sanitise it. Standard pickups can sound great.

The standard pickups actually sound really nice clean, especially with generous reverb. I'm just a little apprehensive about tweaking that gain.

Lots of great pickup options. Teles weren't meant to be noiseless and polite. That part of the charm. Also three brass saddles it must have.
Check out cavalier pickups. The lion and lioness are particularly toneful twangers

Gain is an abomination!

The one I played had really low action and a set of 9s. The strings were flapping in the breeze. I'm not a shredder, I imagine that's the first change I'll have to make.

Should be clear - without a pickup change or ridiculous compression-level OD you will always get grit with Tele's, but that's their charm.
