There's a nice looking acoustic on trademe made by AFJ guitars, a luthier in Nelson.
Has anyone here had any experience with this guy, or his guitars? There's no website or demo videos, just a listing on some obscure site and basically I don't want to drop a lot of money on a potential lemon.
Any words of wisdom?

Could not find it on TM as it is actually AJF...
Looks well made. Frey is back in Nelson so he can try it out for you....

When faced with quality, I recognise it every time.

I'd seen that too. A nice D28 clone. Looks very well put together, but of course that don't mean nothin' if it can't sing.
Tempting, but risky.
Any way of trying it first? Any NZguitar brethren down Nelson Way?

Yeah and the seller isn't a lot of help either. It must be difficult to run a guitar business with zero online presence nowadays.
It looks really nice with the maple binding and paua inlays, but there's a lot of guitars that look pretty yet sound like buttock.

Yeah I know, always a consideration.
Not sure I could justify more than $500 on what might be a DIY project or a shiny turd.

Re: AFJ guitars?
if you buy it, just post a thread here saying how awesome it is, best thing since the last thing etc.... then put it up for sale a few days later. Seems to work for some
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Re: AFJ guitars?
Ask him to post some sound clips? It is tempting for the price...
Or ask him to compare the sound to a real D28, ie is it bloody loud and bassy
