Advice on possible trade deal - Taylor for Suhr
Hi all,
I have a possible trade deal on my hands but need some advice from a couple of angles:
1.) Would I be doing alright on this trade in terms of value? Taking into account resale if I go through with it and it doesn't float my boat for whatever reason.
2.) Is this going to fill a niche in terms of sound that I can't already achieve (or get close to) with existing gear (PRS Hollowbody 1, Washburn N2, Mesa Mark V).
On to the guitars in question.
I would be trading a 2007 Taylor 414-CE Spring Limited Koa:
For a 2007 Suhr S1 Pro:
I was originally hoping to trade the Taylor for a Les Paul as in my mind that would complement my existing gear better, as I've probably already got the super strat thing covered with the N2?
Anyways, keen to hear some thoughts on whether I should jump on this, or hold out for something different

Sounds like your other guitars have humbuckers so the Suhr should open up some jangly/stratty/bluesy tones as well as the Mark Knopfler thing in position 2. Also Suhrs play really nice.
How much is the Taylor worth? You could probably sell the Suhr for $2500, more or less. Null_pointer/kiwiaxe/Molly might know the second hand value better than I.

What other acoustic do you have?
I've found that it is harder to find a well playing toneful acoustic than it is an electric.
If you want Jangly, do you need to go high end?
I play a mexi strat with upgraded pick ups that does the job.

The Suhr will sell closer to $3k if it is in great condition. It'll be the best Strat you'll own, just whether or not it is what you're after

Dude, that's not a very good deal for you. That Taylor is worth 2k max.
I could trade you a much nicer Taylor for that Suhr...714

It's his Taylor that he's trading, so he would be getting the better deal if the Suhr is $2500+olegmcnoleg wrote:Dude, that's not a very good deal for you. That Taylor is worth 2k max.

I wish I had a spare Les Paul so he could trade me the Suhr for it!
Loving it so far
Re: Advice on possible trade deal - Taylor for Suhr
Thanks guys.
To answer some questions... The N2 has coil tap so can get close to a strat type jangle (though would be nowhere near the same league as the Suhr). I paid about $3800 for the Taylor back in 2007 - it's in great nick.. I'd value it at about $2800 now, but I guess it's a matter of perspective.
Yep, it would leave a bit of a gap in my acoustic situation as apart from the Taylor I have a classical and a 12-string. But for no particular reason I can put my finger on I want to change things up a bit and try something new/different. I haven't been playing the Taylor much recently and it holds a fair value so it's my prime candidate to move on.
No doubt I'll need another acoustic if I go through with the deal, in which case I'll either move the N2 on and buy a cheaper acoustic, or if I don't bond with whatever I've traded for I might move that on and go for another high end acoustic.
The concept of trading/selling any of my guitars is totally foreign to me as I tend to never let them go (i.e. I've owned the N2 since 95), so am out of my comfort zone a bit hence asking you fullas for advice (which I appreciate thanks).

Well that's good to know! If I don't gel with the Suhr maybe I could trade up for your 714olegmcnoleg wrote:Dude, that's not a very good deal for you. That Taylor is worth 2k max.

Ah yeah, sorry I got that the wrong way round, that's a great deal
Sure, if you don't like the Suhr, get in touch. That would be like a free upgrade for you

Edit: 2 cents flat and a string short.....sorry.
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

That Suhr is a s1 pro. Probably not worth $2500. I paid $1800 for my s3 pro but that was a good deal (tho it had passed in at $2k twice through TM). I'd say that you would probably get $2k for the Suhr (net - ie maybe low 2s on TM).

Re: Advice on possible trade deal - Taylor for Suhr
Looks like the two guitars are worth much the same then. What about selling the Taylor and buying another nice acoustic and something like that Deluxe Strat that's on TM right now and is fitted with Suhr pickups?

Hmm, seems I need to do more homework on Suhr prices too...I thought they all went for about $3k around here...
