Re: Chibsons
pretty much the only issue I have with these is people who try to sell them as REAL .... the sellers sell them cheap for the people who "can't afford the real thing" which to me is no different to a DVD recorder or similar (tape recorder for us older folk)..the problems come when people sell them to the ill-informed as the real thing which I guess comes back to personal responsibility. So basically do your research and if in doubt flag it

Re: Chibsons
I did ponder getting one a while back as wall art for the man cave, a knock off sig series as from a distance and to those who don't know/care they could look cool..
Always other stuff to spend spare cash on though, and I hate buying stuff with no resale..

Yeah, I know it can come off as self-righteous but knowingly participating it the trade in counterfeit goods is uncool. Just how I feel about it. Not sure if I have any skeletons in that closet but I'd try not to.Bg wrote:How many people have bought or made clones of pedals? How many download movies? How many people have bought IPhones? Thats the IP and sweatshop arguments out of the way....
I bought a knock off steinberger once, because I wanted the parts - it didn't play too badly, but it was really shit compared to the original. Would I buy again? nah.

Re: Chibsons
I was more pointing out the ways IP is stolen and viewed as not being evil - however, every time a hotcake is cloned, its taking IP from Paul Crowther, same when any pedal is cloned. Yet people don't frown upon it. Downloading series and movies is an accepted norm, as is using vpn etc to circumvent copyright policies.
I'm not saying that, I'm not guilty in these regards - but its not a million miles away from what is perceived as the victimless crime of the 'knock off'.

So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Re: Chibsons
What if those Hotcake clones were sold with "Hotcake" stamped on them?
The forgery stuff differs from homage or non-branded clone I think. Check this shit out...scary good pre-CBS copies.

Re: Chibsons
With so many decent cheap guitars ALREADY in the country and a sea of second hand opportunities, which that you can actually try out before you buy, why would you go for a random knock off from old mate in China? just why? Who gives a flying badgers balls if it says Gibson or not. If it plays like a lacquered terd then it's just a lacquered terd !....with a label and almost certainly wonky tuners.
