'52 Tele Project

Post by Molly »

Getting my '52 Tele project underway as of today with the arrival of this from Troy. Will post more pics etc. as it progresses. Might take some time. Already planning on a full strip and refinish. As you can see, the existing finish is surprisingly thick. Thinkin' nitro DuPont code somethin' or other.

Troy also included this little extra. It's a transfer you can put on your guitar to, well, I'm not sure why... LOL. Will stick it on my kid's wall maybe. Cheers Troy. ;-)

Heat gun and palm sander are your friend for removing thick finish.

Stripped a poly one once with a hairdryer. It blistered and came off like a packet of quavers. :-)

Faded Shell Pink. That's a good idea.

Thinking that finding / making a pickguard might be a pain but saw this pic and thought I could live without a pickguard for a while if necessary.

Kind of cool pickguard-less. Saw Blake Mills with a similar tele and like the look.

The pickguard can go on after the fact. Just make sure your neck pickup is at the right height first lol

I have white and mint green if they're of any use to you. Think the green one has a mark on it.

That last screw really robs the responsiveness of the wood.

I agree Grant. After 6 screws all the little blue pills in the world wouldn't get a response out of my wood.
