NGD 2000 Fender 'yamano' AV 62 JM IMB

Post by StrummersOfThunder »

Well he finds dropped this one into my lap. Something a bit special.
From what I read , Yamano is a high end distributor in Japan. They commision fender (CS particularly) to do special runs for their shop.
In 1999/2000 they did a run of jazzmaster in custom colours (ice metallic blue, shell pink, burgundy etc) with matching headstocks . They did 50 in each of the five colours. The guitars were finished in nitro lacquer and were the precursor to the much loved 'thin skin' range.
There is also fairly good evidence that they were CD assembled.
This JM popped up on gumtree in Sydney. I almost choked on my coffee.
The look is gorgeous. The lacquer having developed some nice checkering allready. Hard to show the colour in the photos but it's a metallic blue with a sort of copper green to it. The frets are brand new (replaced not long ago) and the neck nice and straight. The pickups are fender custom shop JM pups. The white guard has been swapped for a very attractive tort. The neck has a slab board which is nice. Also the profile is vintage with a lovely feel. Not slender but not too chunky
The case was non original but decent.
This guitar will nicely match my original 65 ice metallic blue jaguar.

I'll post some better pics tonight, just rushing off to work right now.

Very nice
Tube amp and guitar tones straight from 1958… amazing how believable the sounds were back then, even without the modellers...

I can fix the rusty string tree and screws. Best if you send the whole guitar to me though.

Very nice, BTW.

Looks a bit grey. Should've used decent poly paint to keep the blue colour looking nice and stop that ugly cracking.

Looks great. That tort is from 1999-2001, easy to spot that distinctive dark pattern as they changed it soon after. I really like those. Anyway, point being it looks like the original owner changed the pickguard soon after buying the guitar, and it's been on there a long time.

Those pickups look like standard AVRI62 pups, judging by the beveled pole pieces. CS JM pickups are more recent, and I've only ever seen those with flat poles. I've never seen them for sale outside of buying a CS JM either, though I'm sure someone has parted one out at some point.

Looks like it has a Mustang bridge instead of the original.

PS: Yamano Jags/JMs were from 2000, they didn't make them in 1999. They are exceedingly rare, that's for sure.

Yes, the neck pocket is marked 2000 , I just mentioned 1999 as It came up in another forum discussion.
Yep mustang bridge
I agree , the tort looks nice , that would explain it if they used to make them earlier.
I have the original pickups in the case and the guy bought CS pickups and had them installed. But I'll bow to your knowledge there as I've never had CS pickups before. I'll take the guard off tonight and have a poke around
Thanks for the info :)
