NGD: Fender MIJ Strat

Post by NippleWrestler »

First thing's first: it's a lefty. The strings are flipped. I play lefty, learned to play on my dad's right handed guitars and just flipped them over. I don't play it 'upside down' so the knobs are at the top, it's just a lefty.

It's a MIJ 1968 reissue from 2006. It spent the last 4 years in a closet after the previous owner (who was a righty) had a kid. It's beat up in a good way.
It's super vintagey being based off the USA 1968 'Hendrix' model- no skunk stripe, thin neck, narrow frets, 21 frets, vintage tremolo, 7.5" radius, 'F' Tuners, truss rod annoyingly at the heel, and comes in vintage white with a maple on maple neck.

It's a frickin' awesome guitar. Beautifully put together (despite the missing bits), wonderful balance, and a stonkingly brilliant neck which is thin enough to think about shredding but wide enough to grab something substantial and make chording easy.

I've got a USA wiring kit here that'll go in eventually, I just wanted to see how it was (almost) stock. The saddles and arm are new as of this morning because the originals were missing.

Sounds: Snappy, jangly, bright, immediate... I mean it's a strat so you know exactly what you're getting really, there's no surprises here that it immediately conjures memories of every strat song you've ever heard and ringing out a G chord through my Dual Rec and Marshall 4x12 is awesome. Fat, open, airy, vocal, hollow and honky with great sustain and a big rock n roll sound. I'm debating swapping out the bridge for something a bit meaner but we'll see after the honeymoon period and after jamming with the band, but as a hard rock/sludge guy who plays big humbuckers, this is a very nice change.

Image

Suffice to say: it's awesome. I got it for a steal and it's a credit to the Fender name.

It's called 'vintage white'. It's not even white, it's literally a cream colour.
