Jazzmaster Build

Post by AiRdAd »

Hey guys,

This one will get underway tomorrow. Ever since I saw grants one, I wanted to do one the same.

I'm taking all of the gear off my Classic Player Jazzmaster and putting it onto this MJT body. I got the body and guitar a while back but was procrastinating on what bridge to put on it. I was getting know where with a decision, so have decided to use the bridge off the Classic player in the meantime, until I make up my mind (I'll most likely stay with this one though - unless a well priced mastery one pops up.)

The body is light ash. I waited for about six months or so for a light ash body to come up in the MJT ebay auctions. When i went to bid on it I put a bid of $40,000 on it by accident, so i suppose I was guaranteed in getting it :-)

I'm going to put the pickups that Ben recommended in it, and also redo the wiring. Grant has a lovely Musikraft neck on his, but in the meantime, I'll just stick with this one. It's quite beefy and has got the frets I like.

Haven't decided on what pickguard to put on yet :-)

Nice
Don't you dare put that bridge on it
You have two, if not three , reasons to order mastery gear asap . You will never regret it.
As for a guard. White or dark tort

Thanks for the comments guys.

I've never really been a big fan of tort pickguards, but it actually looks really nice against this colour. I'm leaning towards the tort or the light gold, with the light gold ahead by a nose :-)

You may find that you can't switch from a TOM type bridge to a Mastery/trad JM bridge once you've installed it is all- check the thimble size and spacing before you proceed if you do want a Mastery on there eventually (which you do- trust me).

I'd go for a Mustang bridge (Japanese). They are cheap and stable and look right. Staytrem is a more expensive version of this, but I tried it out, and honestly couldn't tell the difference from a regular Mustang, in terms of reliability, stability and tone.

But yeah, anything but a TOM and you should be fine.

Thanks heaps for the advice guys.

I've got some little ferrules and fittings that will go into the body and fit with no modification - they'll also come easily too. I'll pop them in, in the meantime to get the guitar up and running, and then i'll sort out what I'm doing next.

Done the same...and agree. As an aside, I broke a string on the Mastery equiped Jazz the other day...little E string. Broke right at the take-off point. Will keep an eye on that.

For me, nothing is better than the stock American bridge, but so few people agree with me there that I just recommend Mustang bridge to most folk.
