NGD: 1978 Fender P bass
Well, this officially wins as my stinkiest guitar. All original 1978 P bass. Smells like its lived its life in a tobacconists whilst being deliberately misted with beer and sweat. It seems to be all original apart from the strap buttons.
Scores quite well in other areas though. Not overly heavy (though havent weighed it but id put it around 9-10lb)
The poly is thankfully quite thin on the body and shows some decent wear.
Plenty of fret left and they appear original. The truss works great and the rose wood board is in good shape, as well as being lovely and dark.
I think the burst is pretty sexy.
Havent had a chance to plug her in yet. Ive ordered some la bella flats that should arrive soon.
Fun times

I have a 74 with maple board that Ive put rio grande pickups in.
Im thinking Im going to keep this stock barring any issues with the original components that way pop up when I actually plug it in.
I find the bridge and pickup covers annoying as it makes it hard to palm mute.

Looks rather nice! But I'd sell it in a snap because I can't stand guitars that reek.

I've been airing out the case plus put some baking soda in there. the guitar itself responded well to a clean, a bit of lemon oil and some time out of the case.sunburster wrote:Looks rather nice! But I'd sell it in a snap because I can't stand guitars that reek.

Yeh, cheers. I have a lot of time for P basses. Great example of a design that is pretty hard to beat.Kev77 wrote:That is perfect, very jealous bro.

If you want the smell to stay away I'd just get a new case, it'll save you a lot of time and aggravation. If the case is stinky enough, and has been around for ages, it's nearly impossible to get the smells out of it for good (I've tried baking soda, sunlight, cleaning agents, you name it -- some times nothing works), and they'll just keep getting transferred back to the guitar every time you put it back in there. Been there done that, and learned this the hard way!StrummersOfThunder wrote:I've been airing out the case plus put some baking soda in there. the guitar itself responded well to a clean, a bit of lemon oil and some time out of the case.sunburster wrote:Looks rather nice! Im sure in time it will develop the fetid odour of the bull kelp surfers anyway.sunburster wrote:If you want the smell to stay away I'd just get a new case, it'll save you a lot of time and aggravation. Well done
Flats on a P are normally a good thing
If you get the chance try the Diamond Bass Compressor with it
