NGD A rose by any other name...

Post by StrummersOfThunder »

...would smell so nice and stinky.

Knowing I was popping back across the ditch this weekend for a conference I kept an eye gumtree/reverb and turned up this rather tasty early 90s MOJ gretsch 6119 Tennessee rose.

Shes in great shape, but shipped with a a good film of 30yr stink.

Hard to see in the pics but the grain is lovely, especially on the back. Neck i straight and the action low. Frets in good shape and the appointments are all nicely aged/worn but not knackered.

This model is full scale as vs the 6120 and is shallower in depth. It has a real satisfying weight to it like a centre block guitar, but its fully hollow. I presume some pretty heavy laminate top and bottom and a lot of bracing.

The only think that needs doing is the 10s need changing to 11s and the tremolo spring could go up a notch in stiffness.

These older Gretsches are built real solid. Some say that robs tone, but I think it adds to the sound. I like them a lot.
