Re: Stratocaster/Splatocaster
I once had a 74 hardtail, ash body, that thing was the strattiest quackiest chicken pick'n thing I can remember. This was 30 years ago though, I'd be interested to re hear it now. It was a character, local tga kokomo bluesman bought it.
Very stratty.

Yeah your right, just had a wee measure, two actually. Brains a bit fried at the mo ( what's new some would say )GrantB wrote:You saying 5mm lift at the rear of the bridge? Personally whether I want to use a trem or not I think they always sound better with 5mil at the back as decking to me kills the top end sheen acoustically .

I'd have to say that Jeff Beck disagrees, I'd say theres more than 5mm at the back of his bridge...
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Jeff Beck is an alien from another dimension, where guitars are more expressive and have more available notes and tonesBg wrote:I'd have to say that Jeff Beck disagrees, I'd say theres more than 5mm at the back of his bridge...

I used to own a Jeff Beck Strat. Seriously considered suing Fender for mis-representation. Didn't sound anything like Jeff Beck.olegmcnoleg wrote:Jeff Beck is an alien from another dimension, where guitars are more expressive and have more available notes and tonesBg wrote:I'd have to say that Jeff Beck disagrees, I'd say theres more than 5mm at the back of his bridge...
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Surely this kind of 'splatty' is a good result.Dharmajester wrote:Sorry, but I'm also confused by the splatty term.
Sure, there are plenty of less than stellar sounding examples out there and like any rescue some can be saved , others remain irredeemable . For me the bad ones are thin, lifeless sounding creatures, reminiscent of the awful second rate Shaft style music dubbed onto very cheap 70's porn movies.

Re: Stratocaster/Splatocaster
Sure, but his tremery is an art form within itself. David Torn too. I'm happy with a bit of downward motion and fingers for anything in the other direction. I've tried the Carl Verheyen set up but couldn't get on with the accidental pitch change induced by my right hand on the saddles and am too lazy to remedy it with technique changes. Handy facility of you can get on with it though.Bg wrote:I'd have to say that Jeff Beck disagrees, I'd say theres more than 5mm at the back of his bridge...

Oh do you need a strat to make porn music?
I seem to get a bang on porn tone whenever I get within 4km of a wah pedal.

Re: Stratocaster/Splatocaster
I know exactly what you mean, Slowy. I recently picked up a strat that has no business sounding like one (completely the wrong pickups), and yet it does. It’s almost like the bridge has a similar effect to the 2 or 4 position on the selector switch- you really can’t escape it.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a superb guitar- great neck, lovely and resonant, mostly great sound... but the splattiness (stratiness) is not me at all.
I’m going to try a trem block upgrade before I give up on it but I suspect that me and strats just weren’t meant to be.

Re: Stratocaster/Splatocaster
I couldn’t get into Strats for so long, I just thought they were so cheesy and lacking personality but now I love them. That quack seems so unique to the strat, and they seem to have a really percussive quality....I can’t even imagine what Hendrix would sound like without all the nasally mids.
