So my Ibanez turned up yesterday, here she is with new strings and a full setup completed. My first Floyd style trem so it took me a little while to figure it all out. I removed the trem completely just out of interest and then set it up using a small wooden block to make it easier. It had previously been set up with the top edge of the trem level with the guitar body so was leaning right back. I think I have it pretty level now. I couldn't see/feel any locking screws in the trem posts but maybe this model doesn't have them ?

I love it, it plays great, sounds great and is so different to my SG yet still fits my hands well.

What amazed me was when I took it out of the case it was still in tune, and I mean really in tune, each string went green on my pitch black, never experienced that before with my older style guitars, my SG goes out of tune with the phases of the moon

Yeah, I found that site and read all about the floating trem before I started, made life much easier. The intonation needs a bit a of a tweak but I'll do that tonight as it looks like it will be a bit of pita.

Welcome to good quality floyds and Ibanez's arguably better variant. I have had the same strings on a guitar for over 4 years (yes I am that lazy) and it barely needed a tweak on the fine tuners over that entire period.

does it not have a zero point trem? pretty much fixes a lot of the bad issues of traditional floyds.*said in theory and not practice:ive never actually owned one
edit:got fooled by the slots in the trem cavity cover.

Welcome to modern trems, I used to thrash my RG's on stage, put them away, take them out days later and they'd still be in tune!

Theres a proper tool you can buy for setting it, personally I'd just get a tech who has the tool to do it

But like a Katana probably the most useful tool for him meeting his goals of improving as a guitarist, modern guitars are so much easier to play, which does make them better tools!
