NTD

New Tele Day!

Danny alerted this to me within about 20mins of it being listed, so I did a quick bit of research and pounced on the quite reasonable buy now.

2010 USA Fender Highway 1 Tele

Couple of odd quirks on an otherwise excellent guitar:

1) The guitar is in really good nick, other than the bridge saddles, which were completely fucked:

Saddle screws were so corroded that they had fused in place and the slots in the top just snapped off or crumbled when I tried to adjust them.
Nothing a brand new set of compensated saddles can't solve:

2) The guitar had been thoroughly shielded with copper tape... and I really do mean thoroughly:

I gently removed all the tape (which was reeeeeeally thick- seemed like several layers but was so brittle that it just came off in chunks) and tested it to make sure I hadn't rooted it in the process. The result was... eye opening:

I've never seen a single-coil that hot before!

Anyhoo, the end result is an exceptional tele. Now that I can adjust the action and intonation, it's a beast. It's one of those guitars that brings a different edge or attitude to your playing. Not sold on the pickups (bridge is great for rocky stuff, but lacks the bite that I like in a tele pickup and both sound more compressed than my usual tastes), and the jumbo frets will take a bit of getting used to, but I'm pretty cuffed with it.

When I bought my relic Nocaster the relic work included similarly fusing the height adjustment screws so that they too snapped when you tried to adjust them.

Nope. If it's not worth getting in amongst the fig leaves, it's not worth keeping!

Definitely... you even removed the Fender lettering in the ash tray!
When faced with quality, I recognise it every time.
