Re: Maple Neck Fans??
Rosewood all the way so a maple Strat naturally adopted me.
Only difference I notice is my oafish hands have shredded the finish, like major wear.
Still prefer rosewood or ebony; they don't cut up nearly as much.

Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

I like the look of the roasted Ernie ball necks so much I think I'll buy one just because of the aesthetics

On a tele, i think maple is the way to go.
The new walnut rickenbackers are interesting, maple fretboard on a Walnut neck, which is a bit unusual.

Re: Maple Neck Fans??
I think I like ebony the most. When I recently got this Les Paul Studio I really liked how it feels to play for some reason. Specs say rosewood, but on close inspection it is definitely ebony. Something Gibson did on the 90s apparently with Studios when they thought the darker wood suited the finish more. I also prefer no binding on the neck, which surprised me.
I had a Custom Shop Les Paul back in the 90s that was also ebony. i liked that neck too. An oddball Custom Vee made in L.A. was ebony and that neck was super nice to play as well.
I had a maple Allparts Strat neck. i did not like it much.
I had a budget old Jackson Performer from Japan. It had a maple neck with a very nice slab of rosewood on it. That old kind of rosewood we do not see much these days. Very open grain and uneven texture. That was very nice.

Re: Maple Neck Fans??
Either. But having said that, I prefer the unfinished/raw wood necks, I hate the shiny stuff!
