Well, he DID say "strat like" or something to that effect so you haven't actually been ripped off.
As long as all the holes and cavities are in the right place and the right size, then whether it's a strat or not is, IMO, pretty much immaterial. It's a guitar body. It's not like it's going to give you leprosy or anything.
You can either chuck it out (or attic it) or persevere. Bear in mind that partscasters aren't free either and there's a time investment as well. There's no guarantee that a 3rd party neck will fit the slot on that body either so you may have to get the tools out, and often.
If you're keen to build your own, maybe you should look into getting a kit and then upgrade the parts if and when you feel like it?

The bodys and necks from musicgift don't look too bad. Could be a good cheap start.

It sold for $27.50 and I paid $30 not too bad considering.....know better next time.
