pickups for a 70's ibanez?
Got a mate who's moved back to town and his Ibanez LP copy could do with some attention-current pickups are just about dead. He's keen on something similar to a stock set of gibbo 490/496's but of course is a cheap arse-any suggestions? he's a big stoner rock/classic rock dude so medium gain is plenty enough.

If it has Super70's pickups it is worth repairing or at least check out the pickups.
When faced with quality, I recognise it every time.

agreed seems pretty odd there both dead, what are the chances of that, people don't usually change pickups because they die, surely theyre fixablejvpp wrote:If it has Super70's pickups it is worth repairing or at least check out the pickups.

cheers-i did suggest the gfs HBS 90's.
RE: DEAD-the neck pickup is non functioning and the bridge is extremely weak and microphonic.Yeah you could get them fixed but its way easy to just chuck another set in.And then get them fixed at another date or wheneverThis is all my CBF assessment of course. My mate is super picky and not aligned to my thinking most of the time haha. Also disclaimer:ive yet to open the back up and sniff the wiring.Could just be something been jiggered from flying around in its case.

Check the wiring first. Super 70's sound very good IME.

I have a pair of SD's Alnico Pros. no idea what they're like but i think they're med/low output. interesting trades considered.
