Joe B gets another one-owner 59 burst
"You can live two collecting lifetimes and never see an original owner 1959 Les Paul Standard. Today in Atlantic City I was honored to buy this one from Martha. Her husband Frank bought this guitar in 1959 in Plainview New Jersey. The family kept it for 60 years until today. I am very excited to be the second owner. Thank you Martha and family. I will give a loving home. I give you 9-0427 aka The Daddy Reed Burst."

Any indicated on how much he paid for it? You'd have to think upwards of USD$500k. I don't know how Joe affords it.

No, was no mention of that but yeah US$500k is probably not far off the mark. Crazy huhrobthemac wrote:Any indicated on how much he paid for it? You'd have to think upwards of USD$500k. I don't know how Joe affords it.

I guess I underestimate how much Joe earns through his records and touring. Maybe he's done well in buying and selling guitars too.
Or maybe selling Spot was enough for every future purchase.

Re: Joe B gets another one-owner 59 burst
I saw a post somewhere recently where he mentioned that he has actually formulated "fire escape" strategies around his gear... which pieces of gear he would rescue, in which order/grouping, etc. The mind boggleth when one has that much potentially irreplaceable gear. Having said that, I guess they may be similar to original paintings and other bits of art.

I suspect you could take his entire collection and the combined value would be about the same as a decent piece of Renaissance artwork. Perspective, I guess.codedog wrote: Having said that, I guess they may be similar to original paintings and other bits of art.
Re: Joe B gets another one-owner 59 burst
Not sure how many he has right now, but I remember reading a while back that he owned four 59 bursts. I'm not a huge fan of his music but I think it's great that he plays them as opposed to being locked up in a vault somewhere; credit where credit's due, the guy certainly knows his history with regards to guitars & ampsrobthemac wrote:codedog wrote: Having said that, I guess they may be similar to original paintings and other bits of art.

Seems like many of the original 59's would fall into the 'plaintop' category if they were produced todaywerdna wrote:Not a good top, no stripes.

t'internet says Joe is worth US$20m
Tube amp and guitar tones straight from 1958… amazing how believable the sounds were back then, even without the modellers...
Re: Joe B gets another one-owner 59 burst
Far out, didn’t realise he was worth that much. Good on him; he’s a hard worker and has recorded/toured/repeat the process pretty relentlessly throughout his career.sizzlingbadger wrote:t'internet says Joe is worth US$20m
TBH if I had that in the bank I’d probably buy 2 or three 59’s myself
