Plucked up the courage, hole is a little small (ooerr vicar) although that is better than the alternative... so going to have to adjust it a mm or so…

I’ve done this in the past with a hand chisel! It was not pretty, but it was invisible once the guard is fitted and if it had any effect on the tone, I certainly could not hear it.

(I would not do this now).

I have used a compressed air die grinder, router bit and course steel bits, chisel for finishing if needed. All free hand, you know, like playing guitar.

You are quite safe, I think I was suffering from an acute lack of judgement at the time. I still have that Strat body in my spares box. I'm too ashamed to try to sell it :oops:

Cool, I've done freehand with no issues in the past, shallow cuts etc.

I've also had a router grab and make a fucking mess.... if I'm doing freehand, I'll stick a straight edge on to guide nowadays ;) You only fuck up the once :D
