NGD: Random Partscaster
I ordered this from a place in Melbourne, selling it on behalf of a 'deceased estate' and as such couldn't tell me a lot about it.
The body has definite DIY vibes, and it's not bad, but there's a few notable router slips, the main ones being a little booboo in the jack socket and a little bit in the inside area of the neck pocket where that thin bit of wood lives. The body looks to be 3 piece of basswood or alder. It's not ply which was a nice surprise. Oh, and straplocks indicating someone cared for this thing once upon a time.
I took the liberty of sanding the body for a new finish already. The original pink was a cool shade, but it was lumpy, uneven, cracked in parts and generally not awesome.
I'm going for a candy apple red thanks to the wonders of duplicolor.
You can see the little bit that isn't perfectly routed on the jack plate. Not a huge deal, but it does make a little 1mm gap when the socket is on.
Matching headstock for the win:
The neck is interesting. It's not DIY, and I wondered if anyone here might help track down a maker or a year. The rosewood is very nice, frets are good, a tusq nut has been installed, but the 12th fret dots are very wide and there's a stamp on the heel of which I don't understand the meaning. It came with Gotoh tuners too which is pleasing.
Got a Hot Noiseless in the bridge:
Some pots with JAPAN on them, and a switch I've seen in 80s MIJ guitars:
Interesting thing, should be cool when it's done. I'll do a black pickguard on there as the white is too much.

I’ve seen a stamp like that on a Fender Japan neck heel. Same factory maybe?

That stamp in the neck is its expiry date. Get in and use it while you can.

Re: NGD: Random Partscaster
Adrian had a hunch it could be 80s mij Fernandes. They have neck stamps that look similar so maybe? Could be a same factory job as you pointed out. The 42mm nut makes me think Japanese. It's well built whatever it is.olegmcnoleg wrote: ↑Wed Jun 14, 2023 12:24 pm I’ve seen a stamp like that on a Fender Japan neck heel. Same factory maybe?

Re: NGD: Random Partscaster
It's a 5mm allen key nut on the rod. And while not conclusive of anything (it's easy to change the truss rod nut), it seemed noteworthy. Mij fenders use a Phillips screwdriver style adjustment

Looks like Alder to me but it’s a pretty small sample size!
