Makes perfect sense. Those young dad's couldn't afford the Gibsons when they were seeing them on stages, now they can. However, I wonder if today's kids will care so much about the legacy brands in 15 years. I suspect not but time will certainly tell.

My nephew plays guitar, and mates kids are in a well known band. They care. Brands and iconic instruments are still very desirable to them.

Well, Dave is 55 and Pat is 64.

I haven't seen many (if any) players under 30 playing Gibsons into Marshalls these past few years. Maybe it doesn't hold the appeal it once did.
Music has changed so much now, its very formulaic and all about catching the listeners ear, in modern pop for example the lyrics start within a couple of seconds of the song, young peoples attention spans are such that if you don't then they'll skip to the next track...

I think with music being so accessible these days with streaming and the huge flood of music being made its way harder to stand out, when all the great rock acts were doing their thing it was really new and exciting, no one had heard this before, and you had to seek out the music in stores relying on knowledgeable staff to guide you, these days you get bombarded thru spotify or whatever with suggestions of the same kind of dross... its really unfulfilling.

The "great" guitarists of today that the young aspiring guitarist wants to emulate play Aristides, Ibanez, Kiesel, Strandberg, Music Man, and other similar brands, the Gibsons, Fenders, etc don't get a look in :-(

I think you have to look at the generation coming into their midlife crisis & higher earning potential.

Gen-x, older millenials, who grew up with grunge and indie music. So you'll get stuff like the Adam Jones Les Paul.
But, otherwise it's Fender offsets as far as the eye can see.

Dunable are popular in the doom/post metal scene, and they're basically just decently priced and customisable gibson/PRS substitutes without the attached associations.

That’s the thing, it wasn’t just over 40s at the concert. Heaps of teens and even my 11 year old son (who hadn’t even heard of the Foo fighters) loved the concert. I’m quietly hoping there is still hope for another generation that will enjoy Rock! Weather they play LPs or they will still be considered “dad guitars” I’m
Unsure but either way I’ve got my fingers crossed it’s not dead yet!
I hope they fall completely out of fashion to the point of becoming an embarrassment.
Collector's heaven! :D
That's the only way I'd ever get my hands on one.

One trend I noticed over the last 10 years is the guys repping boutique 7 strings on social media would jump ship the split second when Schecter or Ibanez offer them a deal.

Anyway to get back on track... Not really a LP but here's a 1960 single cut Melody Maker:
Image

Bill Steer from Carcass always played one in the later years so I always wanted to get one.
Image
(Pretty shocking he can tune to B with the wraparound tailpiece)

The original pickups sounded like shit, apparently these were lapsteel pickups. I didn't want to route it like Bill did, so I got some strat pickups in it. I got some Hipshot locking tuners for it since these didn't require any drilling.

Not sure where to put this, but cool story if it is true. (Not for the seller though)
