I think they look better on a jazzmaster or something with a bigger body, definitely out of proportion on a Strat IMO.

It does. The colour and fading was probably 99% of the reason I bought it. It's been with a local guitar tech for about a month awaiting a new nut. I can't argue with most of the preceding criticisms, but have come to recognize that all guitars have their own thing. If you like it the flaws don't matter. And they're inconsistent as opposed to universally bad.
Have a listen to Ainsley Lister on TPS as he cycles through his CBS Strats. In his hands they sound great.
Lastly, think about Brian May's Red Special and all the axioms that could be used to slate it. I'm really not sure the rules are as hard and fast as we believe. PRS think they have it down to a science but I'd rather beat the crap out of a simple Telecaster.

Temporal individuality?
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Okay, so this arrived today, and this is what I have found out so far.
Its heavy at 4.3kg
The neck join is tight
The pickups and wiring are all original
The finish is surprisingly thin
The original trem has been replaced by a 90s Fender two point unit, and the tuners with a random but nice set of grovers

Pretty typical for Fender. Most S9's are 1980.
These pickups should sound real good. Hotter than the vintage stuff...more bottom end too.
