Pickup mounting screw problems..

Post by dclxvi »

Hey,

A good while back I went and bought myself an Iceman IC400, after little to no deliberation whatsoever...(i'd already owned the 4 string ver) It proved to be my second best guitar purchase, following my SG standard... Anyway, after a while, the bridge pickup mounting screws kept coming undone, resulting in the fucker falling into the body. I could usually fix it before it completely dropped in but other times it was a matter of pulling the strings off (which is maybe why it came with a quick-change tailpiece!), removing the surround and re-mounting it.... Very time consuming and ultimately fuckin annoying.

Short of putting a small nut at the end of the screw (which I imagine may end up just working its way off) , or upgrading the pickups, (Yes I still do have the stock p/ups in it and I intend on changing this some day, which may very well be the solution..) can anyone suggest a solution to this? . . I have tried different springs between the surround and the mount on the pickup itself, but to no avail.

Any suggestions are welcome, except if they involve EMG's...

How about a dab of clear nail polish on the screw heads? Easily breaks off when you need to adjust again.

Or for free you can stretch the springs a bit so that they put more pressure on the screw. This usually is enough to stop them turning with the vibes. If that isn't enough, a dab of nail polish, loctite, superglue, pva, snot etc should do it.

A solution for every Genre ! - nail polish ( Glam / Emo) , loctite or superglue ( Metal ), pva ( Classic Rock ), snot ( Punk )

Glue would probably be more hygenic.
