Re: Auckland Gearfest May 2009
Auckland parking is dire.
He hit a chord that rocked the spinet and disappeared into the infinite ...
Re: Auckland Gearfest May 2009
There's carpark connected to the Manor with quite a few spots. After that, there's a few surrounding streets with parking, which on a Sunday, shouldn't be too bad.danrawkz wrote:Don't know if it's been asked..
But what's the parking situation like at The Manor?
Don't think I'll be able to get my Peavey in the car so it might just have to be my guitars.

pics or it didnt happen
Hurdy Gurdy.... some how... and I'm not entirely certain how mind you, an instrument that sounds like someone has shoved a nest of angry hornets into a goose with a kazoo bill and is randomly slapping the poor creature with an accordion.... Sounds amazing.
Re: Auckland Gearfest May 2009
Well, a certain member wandered in on myself and Martin(hot_grits) putting one of Ryan's (customaudioboutique) Goodsell amps through its paces with my new Ash Custom.
And he was holding a freaking Video Camera.
So, obviously, I immediately got stage fright and started fluffing notes.
So there is at least proof of that. I imagine it will be up on here sooner or later...
I had a good afternoon it must be said. I had a good crack at both the Greenstone and the Goodsell, and I have to say both felt and sounded excellent.
Ryan and Martin gave a good presentation of the Greenstone with a couple of pedals to illustrate the headroom that's been talked about in another post. I was impressed by the pitch, and Martin's playing certainly didn't hurt the product! Watched them put the greenstone through its paces with a Tele custom, Ash Radian Strat (mahogany with Ash wound pups and fat neck - nice!) and Les Paul. Sounds good with all of them. Puts out a helluva volume for a 1x12 amp! Sounds good all the way through that range as well! I was allowed to play with the dials quite a lot and was able to get some nice sounds out of it straight away.
The Goodsell, I didn't get many details of, but seems to fall into the tweedish sort of category which I absolutely love, so I got on very well with it. Good touch to this amp, with plenty of guts to back it up and dirties up nicely. Just sounded sweet and quite punchy.
I didn't even venture into the jamming room, as I forgot my earplugs and the volume in there was up at the point where I wasn't sure I'd emerge with any skin. But it looked like fun was being had in there....
Anyway, it was good to have a piece of gear presented and demoed in the way the Greenstone was. Was a good way to get to see its good points in the hands of people who know what they want from it, and can really play. Was as good as being just let loose on it to figure out how I could work it to something I like.
Props to all involved in the organisation of another good event.
Oh and whoever was responsible for the sausages gets a major thumbs up!

Don't worry, the footage shall emerge soon, once i've "past participle of get" some uni related things out of the way. I don't think I have too much footage, but enough to put together a short video of the nonsense that went on.

I look forward to it with much trepidation...Fler wrote:Don't worry, the footage shall emerge soon, once i've "past participle of get" some uni related things out of the way. I don't think I have too much footage, but enough to put together a short video of the nonsense that went on.
And it's a measure of the volume in that jam room that Fler was wearing earplugs and says his ears hurt....

Re: Auckland Gearfest May 2009
Yep, although I wonder if having them things stuck in my ears had anything to do with that.
So the 'jam room' had:
Amp-wise:
VHT Sig X half stack (higainer)
Diezel VH4 (Fler)
Fractal Audio AxeFX Ultra (Fler)
Orange Tiny Terror half stack (denden)
BG had some interesting things in there, that synth unit was rad as!
Someone had a TSL60 combo in there also, can't remember who though.
Alan also brought along his Anvil amps, which were pretty rad little things, looking forward to seeing how they develop.
Geets:
Squier HM Strat and 'Shitocaster' (denden)
PRS Custom 22 of extreme sexiness (higainer)
ESP/LTD SC608b 8 string (Fler)
A plethora of Ash Custom Works guitars, thanks to Adrian, of course.
And if I remember correctly there were a few strats too?
And much silly jammage. Heaps fun =)

Re: Auckland Gearfest May 2009
Another cool day.
Thanks so much to Capt Black for putting it on.
Props to Ryan & Martin (Hot Grits) for the Greenstone demo....what a team. Bloody impressive
The jam room was cool but, wow.. no shortage of volume. Ducking in & out from time to time helped a bit with the ringing of the ears. (note to self.. bring earplugs next time)
BG's synth & Flers wicked Axe Fx held down the effects corner in style.
Good to see familiar faces & cool to meet an unfamiliar one.
Rob schooling me of my underestimating the power of twin KT88s. Good golly

Enjoyed meeting you guys, shame I was put in the wrong room, I didn't even get to hear the Greenstone, Goodsell etc.
Bill & Ted were excellent, and I must add VERY proficient musicians who really enjoyed themselves and gave me a loud but excellent adventure!

glad you made it. A quick piddle with your board answered some questions I've been batting around the skull for a while. And that 6 string bass but really a guitar was choice!Kev77 wrote:true all, I was only there for a short blab, but thnks again chaps
Fler's axefx was a lot of fun! loads of sounds and some crazy ones at that.
Alan's Anvil amps were great. I especially liked the trainwreck-style amp, lots of balls and cut without hurting the ears.
and flash sausages too! choice.
