Was an awesome time and a much needed distraction from the recent dramas, big thanks to John & Elaine for their hospitality, was lovely to get out in the country and make some noise, drink some beers and gobble some sausage (IB;JB)

So much hot gear, and I was so stoked I got to play Mark's Floral Jem, I've wanted one of those since I was 15!!

Good to see your samick old face again TG.
One of those is definitely "none more samick"old chap.

You'd've dug Drew's Plexi, tone for days, crunchie in all the right places, and an Orange cab able to support collapsing buildings.
Tin arse!!

Thanks to John and Elaine, great gearfest, wonderful hosts.

And thank you Drew and your good lady (maybe she'd like to sign up here???) for including the 'fest as part of your cab collection plans, great to have you all the way from Otago, maybe you and Raz could concoct a Dunedin-fest?

BG, hope you don't mind, as you can tell there's a photo toasting you, and, ahem, there might be some competition for the Kilkenny at the next fest!

Ummmm .... I might argue with that ... there was a cracked Orange cab in the shop when I left on Feb 22nd. And it only had guitars fall on it.
Yup - that's me and my pal Steve or little stevie vai as I like to call him. In Auckland airport when I was 26. I'm not 26 anymore.

haha yeah I saw, though you have to bear in mind that at one of the welly fests, I drank 24 cans of kilkenny (the small cans though) and then went out to the irish bar for more in the evening ;) No competition :P

though I do admit that I'm well out of practice :p
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

yes I'm guilty on both counts of bringing a girl and a tele.

When's sentencing BG?

Was great fun guys had an awesome time, was well worth the trip up there, and I'm extremely happy with how my amp's sounding through the new earthquake proof cab.

Tip of the hat to John for hosting it.

really great afternoon yesterday, so much good stuff to look at and listen to.

Of the stuff I hadn't seen or heard before the following were some highlights for me:

Drew's Plexi and Orange cab were a great combination. At one point there was an excellent jam going on around a Ruby Fusion riff I think if I recall correctly, I'd been taking a few pictures and was stood the other end of the room behind the level of the cab and it sounded good. I moved around to take some pics and came in front of the cab and the sound was awesome and really cut through. I then nipped outside to see how bad the lack of soundproofing was outside the studio/shed, and the plexi/orange combination was still very clearly cutting through.

Drew's Gretch looks awesome, loads of bling :) it was played a couple of times through a few amps and had a lovely tone, played through Craigs Big Buff (I think) into his Rocket it had a great full thick tone.

Mark's floral Jem was beautiful, got some lust for that. Felt lovely to hold and seeing it up close it looked great, never realised the higher frets were scalloped before. It was also great to hear Mark's new Line6 X3 Pro (I think that was the proper name for it) rack based system, the sounds were really good and it was nice to hear a full rig using modelling tech in person.

Craig's Steinburgler was really interesting and nice to play, Looking forward to having a chance to play one of those in a quieter environment so I can hear it better. Heavier and more solid than I was expecting.

Of the stuff I'd seen before it was good to hear the Rocket doing it's party piece breakthough during a heavy jamming section. Also the classic heavy wah, 70's porn inspired riffing on the steinberger from Craig.

a few personal highlights for me:

Niamh (my 7 year old) was so excited by the prospect of the day that she invented her own chord before anyone had arrived and the took great pride in showing it to anyone who would listen, and props to Reuban for taking the time to identify it, she informed me later it was a something 13h with a major 6th, or as Reuban told me "a dangerous Jazz chord". She then spent a long time walking around with her own mini-squire on.

I'd invited Shaun, one of the local young guitarists round for the afternoon and he seemed to have a good time and I saw him fully committed to most of the jams which was nice, great to make him feel welcome.

It was a great chance to test out the wiring in my new office/studio and it would appear I have enough power in there to handle anything I can throw at it in the future.

Great to have you all out for the afternoon like I said, and just a shame you all got back to a nasty aftershock later that evening.

Much discussion of when the next one should be, hopefully Christchurch should be up to hosting the next one in three months or so :)

cheers guys
