AKL Gearfest: Sunday 19 August, Corban Estate Arts Centre

Post by Capt. Black »

That was a lovely little set up, Sparkly.

The more I think of it, the more I'm impressed with high local content we had there. Some great gear on show from as far back as the 1950s!

Doomage??? I think that must refer to Dangermouse's Greenstone rig that was the next photo down.

Thanks to super fast delivery from Rockshop - cheers Dave - the bottom Mesa Thiele cab arrived from their New Plymouth shop before the weekend, so I could complete my TransAtlantic mini-stack. Of course it was a bit like a terrier nipping at the ankles of the Greenstone of Doom straight across from me!

Also, I'm a bit embarrassed by the box of beer that was more prominent than the guitars!

I really liked your yellow Ibanez
It was my first electric guitar, but it's got a pretty thin neck which makes my hands sore if I play it too much. I might sell it to someone with smaller hands at some point. but it's hard to let go of your first

When I saw that I immediately bonded with it, sorry I cannot buy it as it will not go with anything in the lounge :(

You sound like Ben's wife  - everything has to match the decor.

Did anyone get a photo of your acoustic with the unusual stringing/tuning? That was quite incredible.

Yes matching is very important for any music stuff to be there, but there are double standards as she has a pink uke on stand, so go figure.

Don't know about any photos of the beach guitar as it is fondly known as.

Merci! Looks good. I suspected by the tint of the neck that it was an SX. I'm lusting after a blonde Highway 1 with a Bigsby, hence the interest.

Totally a shame to have missed the day - seems like a good time was had by all, etc etc.

Is there a good thread to look at on here (or wherever) to find out what the heck you are talking about with the Les Paul R8 R9 etc?
Larrivee 00 Acoustic. FAV Strat for electric. Ibanez SDGR5 for bass. Push for Ableton. When not doing that, 3D CAD for tunnels...

I think my little corner must have been missed by the photographer..... A few guys played it...
Nick played it and I would have loved hearing him playing it but the foreground noise was overwhelming.

On that note, this was my first gearfest and quite an ear opener. Good to meet so many of you and all credit to the organisers.

What I liked most - meeting you all and the gear introductions by each individual.

I struggled though with hearing the unique traits of all this fine equipment as so many individuals were all trying to play at once. Perhaps we could improve on that through some sort of theme? But hey, may be I was the only one who felt that way.

Cheers, Sean
