Another great Tronfest.

Thanks to Willow for organising, and thanks to everyone for bringing all the nice gear. I felt bad that I had very little to contribute this year.

Didn't try as much as I would have liked (same old story), but was well impressed with Twangsnarl's set up. That AC15HW sounded great with the esquire and la cab, and loved that White Swan pedal!

KentNZ's set up was also very nice, shame about the PS blowing up! Hope you get it sorted.

Took some pics, but they're pretty average. I'll look at uploading them later. It is Mother's Day afterall

Firstly thanks to all who attended for making yet another tronfest an awesomefest. Was great to meet a few new members and wicked to see so many ryanbuilt amps in attendance (now I just wish I had actually gone and listened to all of them kinda got caught up in having my amps turned up a bit more than usual and sausage cooking to venture to far)...from what I heard coming from the unique/bender room there was some magic happening (esp the morgan which sound phenomenal while I was coking the meat)

Hearing grant and joe playing through my new JC amp was a pleasure (not to mention $$ saving for me...but i'll cover that in a new thread) and a revelation, good times. Also great to sit down with john gilmour and talk through some stuff around tonal possibilities/options...and JVPP and talking home builds (that heavy strat was fantastic)

Hope my strangled cat soloing/jamming with calling card snr/jnr was to painful CC ....... oh well better go and do that other thread now

Hey Dave, I hadn't realised you organised it prior to seeing all the posts thanking you. So +1 from me as well. Good location and though I needed my earplugs, it wasn't as bad as the bunkers in west auckland (from a 'sound escaping' point of view).

I think there was very little in between those two - both bloody heavy. I was pleased to hear yourself and others getting some decent sounds out of my second homebuild, so that gave me some encouragement to build number three (tele).

Talking about Telecasters: Twangnsnarl's tele's showed me a considerable weight difference between them and I think one had 12's on it, that's how it felt anyway. One pick up is interesting but I'll stick with two. That home build tele from Kent was soooo cool and beautifully finished.

Didn't get a chance to check out Slowie's.

I had a great time at the Tronfest yesterday. It was great catching up with some old acquaintances and meeting some new ones. Like most people, I didn't have a chance to hear or try most of the awesome gear on display.

First, thanks to Dave for organizing and cooking. Also, I LOVE his new JC! Love the other one, too, but the white one is more my style. Lots of JTM-like goodness in that bad boy, and it just gelled really well with my Epi Dot . Thanks, Dave, for letting me have a play through it, and it was great to hear Dave and Grant have a go on the Dot through the same amp.

Thanks to Tonemaker for letting me have a play through the new and improved Mojave. I really like the cleans and the medium gain tones from it, and all the chorusy, echo-y swirlyness from the rack processor was fab. It's easy to get lost in it. While playing it a little impromptu jam with Grant and CC & Son (the young fella is quite the multi-instrumentalist) sprung up, and it was quite the blast!

Sean's Yamaha semi-hollow and heavy as custom Strat were a dream to play, both sounding great clean and overdriven through my Mini Rec. Thanks, mate, and see you next month at the Larry Carlton show.

And Mike's new acoustic. I didn't get to spend as much time as I would have liked, but it plays beautifully.

Can't wait for the next one!

Yes, the Esquire is pretty light. It's got 11-50 flatwounds on it, hence needing biceps in your fingers in order to bend. The Cabronita's not exactly a fattie though. I reckon you'd be lucky if there's half a kilo difference between them. You wanna talk light, try Ben's Radian! If you filled it with helium it'd probably float away.

I enjoyed hearing someone else give my setup a go. I use the Rangemaster clone pretty much exclusively for getting my T. Rex on, so it was cool to hear someone put it to a different use. Fuzzie Bro definitely did a great job of the circuit. I was surprised that neither guitar sounded over the the top bright when you were playing them too, even with the tone controls right up.

Sounded pretty bright to my ears, but that's what I like, Voxy brightness. I like the inherent lack of bass in Vox amps too.

Probably depends where you're standing too, normally when you play you stand directly in front?
