yep i have it mildly
last year freaked me out when my left ear decided to hear things an octave below so all i could hear was a tinny robot noise
that was scary
ive just spent to much time in front of very loud PA systems and now i have that constant hissing that goes pop all of a sudden and shits me up
saying that i have found that i do tend to produce a lot of wax and just holding my ears under the shower relieves that build up(apologies if your eating lol)

its weird as you get older and im now starting to ache and my fingers are sore in cold weather you have to think how long can i play guitar?
well play is a bit strong lol

Nowadays I'm reluctant to go to concerts & even wear moulded earplugs to gearfests.
Same, although I have the cheaper $60 version.

Took them out when people talked about their gear only to be 'surprised' by some demoing.... blocking my ears frantically.

Do the molded ones allow you to hear the spoken word when no playing occurs? If so, I should get some.

I have slight tinnitus as a result of not wearing earplugs during the first few months of regular gig-attending back when I was a teenager. As soon as I realized it I started wearing earplug though. And I've learnt to "unhear" it after having it long enough.

I had it for most of my twenties, but close and careful attention since and its gone. I am most certainly hearing impaired though, so continue to carefully protect what is left of my hearing.

I religiously wear them to gigs / practice, my hearings not perfect, wearing headphones all day and blasting loud music isn't the greatest... have to keep checking my volume as I creep it up all the time :(

Posted this up on facebook and a guy said you could go to the hospital, and if you say you have issues with ringing ears and are a musician you can get prescription molded plugs for like $50!

I like many mildly have it, partly from loud gigs, partly from LOUD KIDS ( :sarc: ) and partly from listening to music with ear buds. I listen to music (with the buds) pretty much all day. With the job I do and the fact I work on my own (the music and often talkback radio  ) I would go insane if I didn't have something "keeping me company"...I keep the level at what I think is ok, although judging be my wife's reaction when she jumps in the car after I have used it, it might be a bit louder than I think :mental:

This is a typical scenario with my wife:

2am, we're in bed, wife sits up.

"did you hear that?"
"what?"
"that noise"
"what noise?"
"that noise, there it is again"
"I can't hear it"
"there it is again, you must be able to hear it"
'"nope, can't hear it"
"it's like a buzzing sound, there it is again, you MUST be able to hear it?!?"
"NO I CAN"T HEAR IT, HOW MANY TIMES... I'M DEAF, OK??!!"

FARK! That's an awesome thing to know. I might go and get some higher attenuation ones.

I have noise-cancelling over-ear phones, and am really conscious of trying to keep the volume low; I do find that after a long session I get what I can only describe as fatigue, and have to take them off for a while and have a break.

From the title, I thought this was a thread about Marriage..

I realise this is a Grumpy Old Man comment but I get really pissed off with the volume of some gigs. It's not cool, it's just fucking irresponsible.

Agree entirely.

When Cairo Knife Fight supported Them Crooked Vultures, I though holy crap, CKF were bloody loud! And then TCV came on and I was blown away with the volume...and not in a good way.

And I had plugs in....albeit average ones.

Yep I agree I've been to many gigs where the support bands have sounded better than the main act due to it being quieter
Rush put on a great show that wasnt ear splitting and you could enjoy the music
And also ramstien didn't have stupid noise levels and it was excellent
