I'm stupidly impressed with the Amplifire - If i didn't need the switchable effects from the Helix, I would've gone Amplifire.

always a pleasure running these fests.

Nice to see a good chunk of you who could make it - I'm sure some photos will surface of people playing stuff, I saw a couple cameras.

Things I noticed today:
- we all played everyones things, usually most of us just twiddle on our own amps just at loud volumes.
- Willow attempted the Helix!
- The Amplifire was great - what a great gigging setup from Zauklin
- The Doozy sounded awesome in every amp.
- grant makes everything sound more expensive.

Si, many thanks and well done.

Great gear times indeed. Will post thoughts once I'm through small human logistics.

I endorse the Starplayer TV. I was convinced I'd like it, but I actually loved it. The little fretboard took some acclimatisation but the pickups are two thumbs up. And Conway, I don't know what you were listening to but the mid position was my favourite!

And my next amp is made by /13 and is curiously enough exactly like Grants..! Wow what a beast.

JVPP has the most serious tone you'll find from 4 watts this side of Stoke (on a cold night), especially with Grant's enormous Firebird attached. It'll even shred a Gretsch!

You seen and heard it Ben... Any ways...

Sorry about the crappy photos but here they are anyway. This was probably the smallest gearfest I have been to but quite rewarding in terms of actually getting to chat to people inside the room - there were actually some quiet moments. And outside it was freezing Tron weather anyway. Thanks Simon for organising this.

Grant on Gretsch on Poweray amp - only 4 Watt or so but - Sounded Bloody Great!

Image

Poweray Amp - Single ended EL84 putting all its got out on two parallel wired Celestion 70th Anniversaries.

Image

NullPointer's gear (Vox missing) Some cool and very light guitars.

Image

Willow on Mr Fat Neck - Sounded pretty good on his gear.

Image

Grant's Corner - really liked that div13 amp and his 60's Gretsch.

Image

Close up of Mr Fat Neck pickups - Need to work on Version 3 now that I received some good feedback from the guys. Thanks Dave, some great playing on my guitar. And the neck did not seem to bother you.

Image

Si's gear - his homebuild cabinet is stunning and perfect match for the Ryan amp.

Image

Si's Doozy - pity it is black :D

Image

Si on the Yamaha SA-5 on Vox AC15 - sounded good (On the right THAT Gretsch)

Image

Nick's turn on the SA-5 - Mr Zaulkin is a fabulous player and it is great to hear that old Yamaha come to life...

Image

Willow on the SG2000 with the Celestion Anniversaries plugged into his amps. Finally played one of his scalloped guitars - quite a challenge to loosen my vice grip...

Image
When faced with quality, I recognise it every time.

OK...quick summary.

- 4 watts of goodness from jvpp...that thing has something special going on.
- enjoyed the flirt with willows floyd equipped thingy. It stays in tune!
- Zaulkin's Ash was veryyyy nice
- Si's Ryan built amp is very rewarding to play...chimey through to full on dirt...very impressed.
- null_pointer has fine taste in gear and it was nice to be able to play the Bogner...the McFly does sound great too...I think once you dial it in you'll have a fine gigging amp with that VVR in there.
- jvpp, good to talk the mechanics of guitar making/fixing! You're very clever.
- tone of the day....which I wouldn't have picked prior...was Si's Duesenberg through the /13. HUGE. Ok, the bling isn't me...not smelly and broken enough...but the sound is better than any Dusey I've played in the past, and most guitars. The shift in tone is clearly with my ears & perception, as they haven't really changed in decades. Right up there.
- The digital stuff is cool and it's come a long way...but I think I'll stay with old skool.
- Just sayin'...cheese (or whatever the feck it is) inside "cheese sizzlers" somehow manages to double it's temperature compared to the surrounding sausage (or whatever the feck it is).

I'm sure I've missed something.

Smaller fest, but still great. Cheers all.

I think they have actually. I could be wrong, but I think the bridge pickup in those Starplayer TVs are now Filtertron-voiced where they didn't used to be.

Don't know.

I know that they make everything themselves.
No googling came up with any thing about filtertron with doozy

They have their own proprietary name - something like D-Tron humbucker.
