How about a run-down on the vox's, Differences?

The best I could say is this:

The blues were slightly louder and a bit clearer, with a more vintage voicing, and a softer more compressed sounding breakup. The bell like chime was slightly more evident with these, until you put a pedal in front, when it's the smoothest breakup you could wish for (harsh El84s...)

The Wharfdales and the Greens are similar sounding, and are a bit more 'modern' a slightly more mettalic sound to them.
I used the TB and the TBX together for quite a few numbers and the tone was monster.
The CC and the TB sounded incredibly similar, so that means that those Wharfdales are amazing speakers. The CC sounded like a classic AC30. What an amp for the money!

Something else that should be noted, aside from thehenderson's and Timi's killer rigs, which both sounded fantastic.

Gelato brought along the much maligned JCM900 100 watt head through a Legacy 2x12 cabinet.

Obviously anything that G plays through it is going to sound amazing, this boy is seriously talented, but I just can't see where the 900 got such a bad rep from, it sounded fantastic. Clean, crunch to HiGain, if I was buying a Marshall I would go straight for that one. It just sounded fantastic, exactly how I imagine a Marshall to sound.

One question Gelato, what type of valves are in that one? El34s or 5881s?

We were using timis little meter thingy to read the SPL of the different amps. For instance, My 135watt twin reverb on full, and my 8watt car on full had the same spl of 126

The voxes, at the volume you guys were running them at the time (I think polar bear cranked his up to 6?) were measuring 122. With the 2 12s and the amount of high end they crank I'm not suprised the volume was so massive

We should have measured at full volume, I reckon maybe it would have "past participle of get" up to the same reading of 126. Perhaps this is some kind of magic number?

Those ac-30s were soooo loud

But timi's cranked 200watt orange head through his 8 10 was loooouder

Yes. I imagine it was :)

I thought we got a higher reading on my one, about 124.6 or something. But yeah, I know that my one goes what seems a *lot* louder, when it treble boosted through the normal channel. Insane volume.

very impressed with all the AC30's especially the CC, sounded great for the cash ;)

The only thing I didn't like about the JCM900 was that it had way too many knobs

If anyone's interested, my JCM800 will be up for sale in the next couple of days - I'm only using the cleanish channel and pedals so I'm going back to a combination of Crate and Bassman or Gunn.
