Firebird V 1965
For your consideration, one very ugly/beautiful, very cool and very playable Firebird V.
Mini humbuckers are the old AlNiCo type and sound like a Telecaster on steroids.
NEck is a great mix of fatter depth, narrower nut - but nothing like say the later 335's etc. It's standard 1" 9/16.
Case wasn't original buty it will do.
Needs a new pickguard which I will build over the next 7 years.
Rarity factor, 7/10...less than 500 made and probably less than 300 alive.

Ugly doesn't do it justice

Love the non-reverse! Awesome guitar. How does it compare to the custom shop NR Firebird you had for a while?

Brilliant. Where do you find this stuff?
Love the NR Firebirds, not so keen on the vibrola though.

Re: Firebird V 1965
Rob, very different tonally from the C/S one I used to have...that was harsh compared to this. The neck on that was also WAY big.
Jeremy - family shot is agreed...I need to gather them up and hopefully sometime this summer will do so.
PlukkyBoy - ebay in this instance. The deal had its ups and downs but we got there in the end.
The reverse bodied '64/'65's are around $18,000 landed so, ah, not on the reality list at this stage. These can be had for much less and are essentially the same thing (wood, hardware). I have always loved the quirky non reverse look. To think they made these because the reverse was TOO quirky!
The other side of this story is though, I sold my Olympic White Stratocaster to fund this...madness I hear echoing around. The thing is I really have no love for Strats...well, except for one, and that's off limits for now ('63 - owned by friend, soon to die in bizarre gardenign accident... ). This will see far more play time than any Strat I'll own. Also, that butterscotch Telecaster went too...can't remember what that funded...oh, some lighting gear, a Vox something etc.
So, the collection grows and shrinks as is called for.

You should probably exercise extreme caution yourself around the garden implements (if the 'thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's axe' thread is anything to go by).*UNIQUE* wrote: The thing is I really have no love for Strats...well, except for one, and that's off limits for now ('63 - owned by friend, soon to die in bizarre gardenign accident... ).
...Oh, and I have a very wide angle lense you can borrow for your guitar family group shot - think you'll need it.
