Personally, if it was a guitar I loved playing, be it vintage or new, I'd have to go with new frets! Can't love playing it if the frets are FUBAR.... Even if it's retired from stage use!

Considering that Strats were made with disposable necks anyway, it kind of makes all the cork-sniffery about original frets etc a tad silly....

...is the right answer! Give it a birthday and continue to love it. It's not old; it will outlive both of us. :D

I would totally refret and keep playing. Screw the resale value, and enjoy the guitar

Getting a refret done won't devalue your strat.
I asked a buddy of mine about this some years ago, he's is a buyer/seller/collector of vintage Les Pauls and he said it's a necessary thing to do.

Decide whether you are a player, or a collector and let that define the outcome.

If it were me....well I'm a player and I would say refret. Sure it drops the value, but not as much as a refinish. Most importantly you get back to having a kick-ass strat to play.

This is not quite accurate info. The cork-sniffing hardcore collectors will frown upon a refret and it DOES drop the value.

Not all that much though... around 5% is the current thought

Might be that the strat fraternity are different in that regard to the LP boys..........

take old neck off, put in safe place.
put whatever neck you like on, with whatever frets you like, play for as long as you like.
if decide to sell, put old neck back on.
win?
