I've started the process of cutting into the wood now. First off, the holes for the controls and jack. Using some pictures of Coronets that Unique supplied and some other bits and pieces I found on the internet, i've scaled off the photos to find out the locations for the holes. There seems to be a little bit of variation on them depending what year they are but nonetheless i've decided on the positioning. No going back now!

To rout the pick up cavity i'm using the clamped straight edge method instead of a routing jig. I've used this method many times before and it creates a really nice finish. 52mm from edge of cutter to straight edge......

And heres the finished hole with the channel for the pole pieces and wire......

Hopefully i'll get a chance latter on this afternoon to rout the control cavity.

Initial rear cavity routed out....
phpfMhnzsAM.jpg
Front set up with a couple of strings to align the pick up.....
phpJRjPTzAM.jpg
Next job is to acquire a really long drill bit to bore the hole from the pick up hole to the control hole and from the control hole to the bridge post hole (for earthing).

Yes! Looking great. How are you going to approach those fret slots? I was going to fill w/sawdust and yellow glue (not super glue - too hard to cut). Then make a simple jig to keep the saw at 90 degrees.

Are the fret slots open too far to try tweaking/crimping the tang to fit in the existing slots?

So far i'm looking at removing the offending section and replacing it with some matching rosewood. It may require removing the whole section up to the end of the finger board because i'm not sure if it would be feasible to steam off just a small section between frets. Still trying to work this one out!

The other way would be to fix a rotating micro blade on say a Dremel, and run the guitar on like a skateboard (!) or something through the saw....make sense? Sounds whacko but could work.

I have some dental burrs which could also be used to cut a new slot if you do fill the others. This would be very tricky though...easy to run off the side etc.

Thanks for posting those up but they're from a 90's coronet re-issue that Epiphone turned into a heavy metal guitar.
