TV Yellow Special - Norlin w/ Wrap Tail

Post by GrantB »

What do we have here guys? Check the neck socket, wrap tail, logo, the use of the word "Model" in the Les Paul, stamped serial (you can't see that, but it's there), purportedly a 1991. I'm at a loss. Is this a super early Custom Shop Special?

So cool. I really dig these. Interested to see what the neck profile is like- I really dislike the slimmer ones I've tried from the late 90s.

Its got me for sure. It looks like a 70s 54RI in terms of wrap angle, and logos, but it can't be. Those had this kind of neck pocket....

This TV Yellow one has a 1950s style neck joint (Molly), so that means it must be a later iteration. It can't be older as the Gibson logo is wrong. Then there's the colour. They did some TV Specials in the 80s, but they had different features....Kluson metal tip tuners, 50s style logo and I think correct inked serial number.

There's a chance this has had a refin...but whether it has or not doesn't answer the conundrum. First thing will be a black Light test to check the finish, then the pot dates, and the pickups (and covers).

It was cheap enough to take a risk...should have it in a couple of weeks.

It's definitely 60s with that neck join area... ala: http://www.gibson.com/Products/Electric ... tures.aspx

Maybe it's had a replacement neck or it's something else like an epiphone with a veneer on the headstock???
