Smelly old guitars

Post by GrantB »

A place to post your smelly guitars.

I'll start with my '67 Gretsch 6120. Super player. I'm the second owner. This one has a sort of menthol note to it... From the binding I'm guessing. With an faint hint of fish.

Smelly old guitars swaps for other smelly old guitars is fine. Smelly old guitars for pristine, possibly feminine smelling new guitars is not.

Actually, some of my oldies have a feminine smell.... :think:

Somehow I think this thread isn't showing Grant what he wanted to see? (Or smell...)

But as per the other thread - what constitutes smelly and old? Does it need a full on historical crust? Pre 80s? Pre 70s?

Great thread idea. I think the criteria for this should be 1) pre 1980, or, 2) played so hard it looks like death warmed up. I thought i'd start off in bizarro-land so here's my first contribution;
phpx0P1r6PM.jpg
1965 Teisco SS-4L. It smells slightly smokey.
1935 Martin D-45, 1942 Gibson Southern Jumbo,1950 Fender Broadcaster, 1954 Fender Strat, 1958 Gibson Moderne prototype, 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard.
1958 Fender twin, 1965 Vox AC30, 1966 Marshall JTM 45, 1977 Dumble OD Special.
Big black garbage bag full of original Klon Centaurs and TS808s.

Who has the oldest, smelliest guitar on the forum? My Harmony parlour was made in '37 (I assume stinky acoustics are also allowed in this thread). It smells like the furniture section of your local Salvation Army shop, not like an old tyre tube or the inside of a tennis ball as you might expect.

It needs a bit of work. New nut, braces re-glued, that sort of thing. Think I'll get that sorted soon. Should be good for another eighty years then.

" Smelly old guitars" by Grantb......... sigh, my new Happy Place! :rofl:
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.
