Firebird Binge
Recently, for some strange reason, I went on a Reverse Firebird binge (in addition to my reverse '64)...I picked up two very clean '76 Bicentennial Firebirds - both rare colours...black and natural. I like this era of custom build, along with the early 70's '54 RI's and the AlNiCo Custom. Gibson could still make an excellent guitar, in spite of churning out laminated boat anchors by the imperial fuck-tonne in the same period. Check out how well that nut has been cut. It's right up there with what the Custom Shop does today.
Here are some shots of the natural. Key points - massive neck, superb playability, lightweight, great sounding vintage style pickups (not quite as hot as my 60's birds have been...more Tele like). One piss off was the previous owner was a little keen to oil the pots and tuners a little too much. On the natural finish it shows through a tad.

I like naturals. Is that pickup gold still original? Hardly any tarnish...
Is the black under the pickup a spacer or part and parcel of the pickup ring?

When faced with quality, I recognise it every time.

So this is what we missed out on because of Grumble Guts?
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.
