I was about to put my youngest child on TradeMe but then realised it wasn't a selling thread.
Tube amp and guitar tones straight from 1958… amazing how believable the sounds were back then, even without the modellers...

Thinking of selling off my oldest. He's been pushing the boundaries, driving me nuts.sizzlingbadger wrote:I was about to put my youngest child on TradeMe but then realised it wasn't a selling thread.

Mine too, but he seems to be on the straight and narrow again for now. Nearly had to kick him out to get him to change his ways.

Very cool!!! Its interesting how the body protrudes under the neck final frets in the cutaway, where as the modern les Paul's have the cutaway flush with the neck.
I've always found it easier to get a classic 60's paf tone out of one of these than a regular humbucker loaded model. Less variables to lead the tone astray.GrantB wrote: Yes, a characteristic of the "budget" level Gibson's of this era. Makes for a much stronger joint plus more meat for tonal transfer. These pickups sound quite PAF like. Honky, clear, woody...with a hint of mouth feel.

Very cool Grant. Much envy. I'm currently in the States and while i'm bringing back stuff, it's nothing like that.
