Looks great Grant! What is the white undercoat under the paint? Is it kind of flakey and powdery?

Looks even worse with new frets. Better send it away to be rid of it.

Are you going to relic the frets - by unevenly wearing them down, and cutting grooves in the appropriate places?

That's the "limed mahogany" finish Gibson was selling at the time. So yes, a first or second coat. The jury is out on exactly how many yellowed coats were applied before the clear, but the combined effect produces this result.

Already done...last night took a fine round rat tail file and knocked out 70% of the frets...feels like a proper vintage now. :mental:

Poor Grant - keep saving up bro and one day you might actually be able to finally afford a brand new guitar instead of those old ratty used ones you keep having to make do with. Maybe a nice new Dean? (Dream big!)

Grant B, where on earth do you find all these beauties?

Hard to find decent vintage gear over here.

Well, I have found many here in NZ by having lots of contacts into this sort of thing. I know of a number of very "prime" pieces here in our little country, but most are kept quiet and often for good reason.

But this beauty here, I got from LA. Very little chance of scoring an original here as you point out. I saw a few in Arlington last weekend and they seem to have lifted in price again.

What I'd really like is an original case for this, if anyone knows of one locally?
