A Strat I can live with

Post by GrantB »

Part of some moving around of things I’ve ended up with this 72. Refretted in weekend, installed a 5 way, setup with Gilmour 10-48- strings, lovely. And me saying that is something.

12th fret up I took the frets lower to the last one, in a triangular shape to allow for choke free bending.

Genuinely curious, what couldn't you live with on Strats previously, Grant?

Nice one Grant. The colour on that one is really nice, it has none of the clown-ish sunburst you often see from late 60-early 70s Fender. Original pickups or something newer?

It's all original, bar the frets and the nut.

Bridge string spread too wide, scale length, lack of sustain, low output, tuning issues, wobbly neck joint, cheap parts (pot metal saddles for eg), for starters.

Looks lovely, also looks to be in pretty fine condition for something that is 50+ years old. Does it feel like it’s been played tons or it’s had stages in its lifetime where it may have been stowed away and not touched much?

Either way, nice job with the refret and congrats on a nice acquisition

It's def been played. Wear on the back of neck shows even play up and down the neck. It is in very good condition though.

What fret size spec there? I'm sorely tempted to post you off my MIJ 62 reissue for a re-fret but figure you have other things more pressing to chew on.
